The Project group collected suggestions for and criteria for soundmapping tools we would use as base of the danube streamwaves soundmap. Vladimir did an examination and will present the results. The project group will participate and discuss the choice.

danube streamwaves soundmap is the name of the fourth round of participatory network of community media along the danube. Partners from Serbia, Hungary, Austria and Ulm gathering in Ulm. We taking change to talk to them about the media situation along the danube and about their network and of course the new project.

Context

Spatial audio is gaining in popularity last few years, mainly founded in Apple’s (and other streaming platforms) enthusiasm towards making the spatial audio “Next Big Music Thing”. This push towards audio that surrounds the listener got additional momentum with appearance of new generation of headphones, ear buds and software algorithms that can create the believable spatial aural illusion using just two sources projecting sound directly in our ears, thus making the technology cheap enough for most users. The simplicity of using just headphones, instead of multi-speaker systems, is not to be skipped as an easy entry point for listeners.

For artist and producer point of view, this technology opens a vast new ground for experimentation. Creating the believable immersive audio-scapes and real life ambiences that feel almost interactive (or indeed are – with head tracking technology) got within the reach of content creators, and host of tools and applications is coming our way almost every day.

Objective

This workshop should represent the entry point for anyone interested in exploring the spatial binaural technology as a tool for creation of immersive audio experiences on digital media or radio. Participant should have a precise idea how to start their exploration, and general experience of some basic approaches and tools that could create the foundations for their future workflows.

Goals

With the workshop program we aim to get to the point where all of the participants:

• Understand the basic theory and technology of binaural spatial audio
• Have the knowledge of available tools and techniques for recording and producing spatial audio material
• Gained the basic experience of creating and producing binaural spatial audio
• Have the general idea of usage cases and applications of spatial audio
• Have created the short binaural spatial demo material throughout the workshop

• Acoustic and psychoacoustic foundations of spatial sound
• Technological foundations of spatial sound
• Demonstration and inspiration
• Guidelines for next phase – field recording
• Creating the basic “script” for field recording

Thomas Viehböck
After long experience as a freelance music producer and the IT expert, Thomas Viehböck came to the Ars Electronica Center in 2011. He worked at RoboLab and VRLab, and in international project management at Ars Electronica Solutions. He has been the technical director of the Future Thinking School since 2020 and in this role has developed and implemented numerous further training programs on the subject of artificial intelligence, among other things.

Cooking and drinking together at the first cooking school in Belgrade. The theme of the menu will be local/Serbian/Danube. The chef and lecturer is Slobodan Radeta the first gastronomy podcaster in the region, author of the podcast “Umami šegrt”.

Die Gema erlaubt den Rundfunksendern lizenrechtlich geschützte Audios bis zu 7 Tage nach Ausstrahlung online zu stellen. Doch es gibt einige Bedingungen, die an diese Erlaubnis geknüpft wurden.

Im Freien Radio sind viele Ehrenamtliche an der Programmproduktion beteiligt. Publishing und unpublishing wird in Eigenverantwortung umgesetzt. Die Angst vor versehentlichen oder unwissentlichen Verstössen ist bei den Verantwortlichen hoch. Die Hoffnung ruht auf einer vollautomatischen technische Unterstützung.

Wie eine solche solche Lösung aussehen könnte, zeigt die Mediathek auf der Webseite von freefm.de. Wir wollen gemeinsam einen Blick in die Funktionalitäten werfen.

Oyla wurde beauftragt die Freie Radio API zu dokumentieren. In der ersten Diskussionrunde geht es um den generellen Aufbau und das Dokumentationssystem. Außerdem beschäftigen wir uns mit passenden Standards, die angewendet werden sollen.

Mit „Allein machen sie dich ein!“ haben die Scherben ja schon alles gesagt, und doch sind wir im Freien Radio Sektor aufgrund verschiedenster Zwangsverhältnisse oft allein daran Yet Another Radio Manager zu programmieren. Das ist auch die Ausgangslage von AURA. Mehrere Freie Radios in Österreich verwenden noch den monolithischen Y.A.R.M. aus dem Jahre 2004, der zwar genau für unsere Zwecke programmiert wurde, aber leider nicht mehr zeitgemäß und weiterentwickelbar ist.

Daher haben sich 5 Radios im Jahr 2017 zusammengetan um gemeinsam eine neue, moderne und modulare Radio-Automatisations-Software zu entwickeln. So entstand das Automated Radio Projekt, kurz AuRa. Dieses wird seither als Freie Software unter (A)GPL Lizenz entwickelt und ist für technisch Interessierte bereits über https://gitlab.servus.at/aura zugänglich. Seit diesem Jahr läuft unter https://aura-test.o94.at auch bereits eine Testinstanz. Mit Beginn 2021 soll der Produktivbetrieb von AuRa getestet werden.

In diesem Vortrag wollen wir auf drei Aspekte eingehen:

• Was macht eigentlich AuRa und was können Radios und Radiomacher*innen damit machen
• Wie funktioniert AURA als Projekt und wie schauen unsere Zeitpläne aus
• Wie funktioniert AURA als Software-Architektur und was können sich interessierte Sysadmin*as erwarten?

Der Infohub ist ein Konzept zur Verwaltung der Publisherchannels für die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit im freien Radio. Dominic Köstler stellt es uns vor.

Welche Plattformen bieten sich an? Welche Erfahrungen habt ihr mit Spendenplattformen gemacht und wieviel Prozent der Spende geht an die Plattform verloren?  Den Start macht Fabian Eckstedt von Radio Lora. In seinem Impulsvortrag geht es um die Spendenplattform Twingle. Danach wollen wir im Erfahrungsaustausch für uns passende Tools diskutieren.

Das Cultural Broadcasting Archive (CBA) ist eine gemeinnützige, unabhängige, zivilgesellschaftliche Medien- und Kommunikationsplattform und gleichzeitig Österreichs größter Podcastprovider mit völlig freiem Zugang. Es stehen über 100.000 Audiobeiträge in rund 50 Sprachen aus einem breiten Themenspektrum zum Anhören und zum Download zur Verfügung: Von Podcasts ethnischer Minderheiten über Politik und Medien bis hin zu Musik, Literatur, Wissenschaft, Kultur oder Philosophie. Somit ist CBA ein Archiv des gesellschaftlichen, politischen und kulturellen Geschehens einzelner Regionen Österreichs und Deutschlands und hat sich seit seiner Gründung im Jahre 2000 zu einem bedeutenden Zeitdokument mit starkem Lokalbezug entwickelt. Das Archiv steht neben dem privaten Gebrauch insbesondere für Bildungsarbeit und für Recherchezwecke offen.

Darüber hinaus ist das CBA Austauschplattform für Beiträge von Community-Radios im europäischen Raum. Mehr als 35.000 Sendungsübernahmen von Stationen aus ganz Europa sind alleine seit 2004 dokumentiert.

Ziele

Der Matrix-Server des BfR ist für dieses Jahr finanziert. Ab nächstem Jahr hoffen wir auf ein Solidarmodell ähnlich wie BBB. Bis zur Entscheidung am Kongress sollen daher möglichst alle die Gelegenheit erhalten, die Matrix zu testen.

An die Techis und Koordinierenden geht die Empfehlung sich vor dem ersten Workshop ein Bild zu machen.

Nur einmal einloggen und dann diverse Tools nutzen können – das erleichtert
es Nutzer*innen und Admins gleichermaßen, wenn verschiedene Tools leicht
zusammen verwendet werden sollen. Ein zentrales Identitätsmanagmenet
erleichtert dabei die Verwaltung und schafft Sicherheit. In diesem Workshop
wird erklärt, wie zeitgemäße Single Sign On Protokolle (insbs. OpenID
Connect) funktionieren. Außerdem wird am Beispiel von Keycloak gezeigt, wie
das Setup abläuft und wie verschiedene Clients wie Nextcloud oder Gitea
verbunden werden. Es werden auch andere Ansätze und Tools kurz vorgestellt
und es wird ausreichend Raum für Fragen und Diskussion – zum Beispiel über
User Federation – geben.

Der Public Value der freien Radios

Radio free FM sendet ab 13 Uhr live vom Internationalen Donaufest 2022! Das Mittagsmagazin Ulmer Freiheit steht ganz im Zeichen von Donauraum, Demokratie und Public Value. Welchen Nutzen und Wert haben die freien Radios für die Gesellschaft? Dieser Frage stellen sich die Teilnehmer:innen der Diskussionsrunde im Anschluss auf der Bühne im Weindorf.

Ákos Cserháti von Civil Radio, Budapest, Erwin Köhler, MdL Grüne, Sabine Fratzke, BfR, AFF, Vladimir Radinović, Vorstand CMFE und Katharina Biringer, Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, unterhalten sich mit Moderator Fabian Ekstedt Vorstand des CMFE.

Abgerundet wird der Abend mit der österreichischen Popcombo “Paul”. Die Band um Frontsängerin Andrea Gelsinger verbindet 80er Sound mit modernen Einflüssen und lädt zum Tanzen und verweilen ein. Bis in den Abend verwöhnen euch unsere hauseigenen DJ’s mit Sound für Meinungsvielfalt und Demokratie.
